Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

    1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
    2. The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
    3. Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
    4. The text is 1.5 spaced; uses a 11-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
    5. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
    6. If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

Author Guidelines

General Submission Guides for Authors

artciencia.com is an open-access, peer-reviewed and independent e-Journal of Art, Science and Communication published twice a year. The journal intends to publish authors' writings or artists’ artwork if they are within the areas of art-science-communication.

Scholars, researchers, critics, and artists are welcome to submit work to artciencia.com, which is also receptive to publishing new authors' work in the intersection between the arts, sciences and communication. Work should be submitted to the related section according to the following guidelines:

  • · Essays and Articles related to Art, Science or Communication Sciences; Essays and Articles should be of at least 3000 words, including notes and bibliography. Essays, articles and thesis should include a 100-150 word abstract and four key words, at the beginning of the text, both in the original language and/or in English headed "Abstract" and indented, and should not include the author’s name or any other information about the author.
  • · Portfolios of artists (e.g. painters, photographers, designers, sculptors, directors, musicians or others), with an evident interest in the context or practices of contemporary art and culture. Portfolios should have a maximum of five images in jpeg format (minimum 600x800 pixels, with the resolution of 72 dpi). Authors should submit a compressed folder (e.g. *.zip, *.rar, etc.) with all the pictures and a text/statement about his/her artwork, as well as a biographical note.
  • · Interviews with authors, scientists, professionals or other people with an evident interest in the context or practices of contemporary art and culture. Interviews should have at least 1500 words and should include, if possible, a photo (gif or jpeg) of the interviewee;
  • · Reviews (e.g. books, films, plays, music composition, etc.) related to art, science, communication sciences, or other artistic, scientific or cultural questions. Reviews should have a maximum of 1500 words, including detailed information on the book, or film etc. (e.g. book: author, title, translator, series, editor, place and dates of publication, no. of pages, etc.; film: original title, director, year of production, etc.), at the beginning of the text. Reviews of any work of relevant cultural interest, irrespective of the area, will be considered for publication;
  • · Thesis on subjects related to Art, Humanities or Communication for a university degree (excluding bachelor/graduation) which have been previously defended and approved. Thesis should be both, submitted and send to the Thesis Editor in PDF format (Adobe Acrobat Reader). Thesis should include a 100-150 word abstract and four key words, at the beginning of the text, both in original language and in English headed "Abstract" and indented.
  • · Translations of texts or books not in copyright.
  • · Fiction - In this section, artciencia.com will publish original works of fiction (narratives, poetry, etc). There is no word limit for works of fiction, but Editors may decide to publish the integral text in a single number of the Journal or divide it into chapters in different numbers.

artciencia.com may also publish short texts (news) about meetings, seminars, conferences, exhibitions, festivals or other scientific or cultural events.

Language and Style

Texts can be written in Portuguese, English, Spanish or French, and should be sent in Word format, source Arial, size 11; 1, 5 spacing between lines (see template in Call for Papers). All texts are published in PDF format; therefore, it is possible to include tables, graphs, illustrations, images, footnotes, or other elements.

Deadlines and Publication

artciencia.com will be updated twice a year. The usual deadlines are 15th November and 15th of May but, if necessary, these deadlines could be modified by Editorial decision. When updating occurs, the work published in previous numbers will continue online in the Archives. The registered contributors will be informed before publication of their work.

Responsibility

The content of all published texts and portfolios is entirely the responsibility of the author. It is also the responsibility of the author to obtain permission for the use of any copyrighted material, including images, sound, and video files.

Posting

Work should be submitted on-line. Authors need to register with the journal prior to submitting or, if already registered, can simply log in and follow the five-step process. If you still have any doubts or questions, please contact the Editor’s section (e.g. Essay, Review, etc.).

artciencia.com does not charge any fees over a submitted work, neither in the submission act, and neither in the publishing act.

ARTICLES
